ARISS CONTACT WITH STUDENTS AT EURO SPACE CENTER SUCCESSFUL

Sunday 12 July 2009, students at Euro Space Center in Belgium enjoyed a space talk with astronaut Frank De Winne aboard the International Space Station. Audience was over 500.

The radio contact was performed by ARISS groundstation WH6PN, located in Honolulu and operated by Nancy Rocheleau. Dick Flagg, AH6NM provided assistance, while Dominique, ON4DGF handled operations at the Euro Space center.

ARISS VOIP coordinator Graham Lawton G7EVY distributed the radiocontact over *AMSAT* and *JK1ZRW* EchoLink Conference nodes. Doug, VE1LDL made the audio available on the IRLP network.

De Winne answered 24 questions.

ARISS is an international educational outreach program partnering the participating space agencies, NASA, Russian Space Agency, ESA, CNES, JAXA, and CSA, with the AMSAT and IARU organizations from participating countries.

ARISS offers an opportunity for students to experience the excitement of Amateur Radio by talking directly with crewmembers onboard the International Space Station. Teachers, parents and communities see, first hand, how Amateur Radio and crewmembers on ISS can energize youngsters' interest in science, technology and learning.
