ARISS CONTACT WITH PARTICIPANTS AT CAMPUS SAFFRAANBERG SUCCESSFUL

An Expedition 20 ARISS school contact was planned with participants at Campus Saffraanberg, Sint Truiden, Belgium.. The event was scheduled on Friday 17 July 2009 at approximately 17:09 UTC.

The school called the International Space Station but there was no answer from Space...

Actually, Mission Control had canceled the ARISS school contact at the last moment, because of urgent tasks, related to the arrival of STS-127 Shuttle.

The contact could be re-scheduled for the next pass, at 18:44 UTC, 20:44 CEST.

Then, all went well. Signals were loud and clear. Frank De Winne answered 20 questions.

Students, audience and media had been informed of the new rendez-vous and were standing by. A lot of stress, but a happy end.

ARISS is an international educational outreach program partnering the participating space agencies, NASA, Russian Space Agency, ESA, CNES, JAXA, and CSA, with the AMSAT and IARU organizations from participating countries.

ARISS offers an opportunity for students to experience the excitement of Amateur Radio by talking directly with crewmembers onboard the International Space Station. Teachers, parents and communities see, first hand, how Amateur Radio and crewmembers on ISS can energize youngsters' interest in science, technology and learning.
