ARISS CONTACT WITH SCHOOL IN DE HAAN, BELGIUM SUCCESSFUL.

The International Space Station school contact, planned with participants at Vrije Basisschool, De Haan, Belgium, Thursday 3 September 2009, was successful.

ARISS groundstation VK4KHZ, located in Glenden, Queensland, Australia, established radio contact with Frank De Winne, ON1DWN onboard the ISS. Students in Belgium asked 22 questions and got the answers from space, real time.

This all is accomplished using the Amateur Radio telebridge network, a world-wide network of amateur radio ground stations that enable students to contact the ISS.

The audio recording of the space talk will be appended to this News Bulletin, archived at: www.ariss-eu.org/archive.htm

ARISS is an international educational outreach program partnering the participating space agencies, NASA, Russian Space Agency, ESA, CNES, JAXA, and CSA, with the AMSAT and IARU organizations from participating countries.

ARISS offers an opportunity for students to experience the excitement of Amateur Radio by talking directly with crewmembers onboard the International Space Station. Teachers, parents and communities see, first hand, how Amateur Radio and crewmembers on ISS can energize youngsters' interest in science, technology and learning.
