FRANK DE WINNE CONTACT PLANNED WITH MIDDENSCHOOL KEERBERGEN, BELGIUM

An Expedition 20 ARISS school contact is planned for Frank De Winne, ON1DWN with Atheneum Middenschool, Keerbergen, Belgium.
The contact is scheduled on Thursday 10 September 2009 at 09:31 UTC, which is 11:31 CEST.

 

The contact will be a telebridge operated by W6SRJ in California. The audio will be distributed on EchoLink  *AMSAT* and *JK1ZRW* servers and on IRLP Discovery Channel 9010.  

 
This high school, for students who are in the first grade, is a part of  the Koninklijk Atheneum Keerbergen.  The school has about 560 students, 12 to 14 years old. Participation to the ARISS project is linked with the course “Technological Education”.  The students have a project that has to do with transportation.  The purpose is to design and make a transportation device that is friendly to the environment.  The project is supported by a syllabus where the students learn about the different means of transportation.  Space travel is a big part of this project.

ARISS is an international educational outreach program partnering the participating space agencies, NASA, Russian Space Agency, ESA, CNES, JAXA, and CSA, with the AMSAT and IARU organizations from participating countries.

ARISS offers an opportunity for students to experience the excitement of Amateur Radio by talking directly with crewmembers onboard the International Space Station. Teachers, parents and communities see, first hand, how Amateur Radio and crewmembers on ISS can energize youngsters' interest in science, technology and learning.
