FRANK DE WINNE'S ARISS CONTACT WITH ANTWERP HIGH SCHOOL SUCCESSFUL

 

The Expedition 20 ARISS school contact with participants at Sint-Michielscollege Brasschaat, Belgium was successful.

 

The contact was a direct operated by ground station ON7RT, Wednesday October 7, 2009 at 10:21 UTC, which is 12:21 CEST.

 

Graham Lawton, G7EVY distributed the audio on EchoLink *AMSAT* and *JK1ZRW* Conference servers.

 

At Sint-Michielscollege Brasschaat, Willy Goovaerts, ON5JM conducted operations. Downlink signals will excellent. Frank De Winne answered all 20 questions and time was left to exchange greetings and wishes.

 

This ARISS contact was a stress test for the amateur radio enthusiasts of UBA section AAA, who built a portable ARISS ground station comprising elaborate satellite tracking antennas. The equipment maiden run was a full success.

 

Two TV stations (ATV en Brasschaatse film) and four newspapers (Laatste Nieuws, Gazet van Antwerpen, Nieuwsblad en Parkbode) covered the event.

ARISS is an international educational outreach program partnering the participating space agencies, NASA, Russian Space Agency, ESA, CNES, JAXA, and CSA, with the AMSAT and IARU organizations from participating countries.

 

ARISS offers an opportunity for students to experience the excitement of Amateur Radio by talking directly with crewmembers onboard the International Space Station. Teachers, parents and communities see, first hand, how Amateur Radio and crewmembers on ISS can energize youngsters' interest in science, technology and learning.
