Successful ARISS School Contact with school in Poland

 

Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace Nr I im. Stanislawa Staszica, Ostrowiec Swietokrzyski, Poland performed a succesful ARISS School Contact.

 

The direct radio contact was first scheduled Tuesday January 18 at 12.03 UTC, which is 13.03 CEWT. Due to interference issues, the contact failed.

 

The contact was re-scheduled Wednesday January 26, 2011 at 07:36 UTC which is 08.36 CEWT. The 8 minutes contact was successful.

 

Astronaut Catherine Coleman answered 20 questions. The audio quality was excellent.

 

An audience of 150 participated to the event which was covered by 4 newspapers, 2 television stations (local and national) and one radio station.

 

Congratulations to ground station operator SP7POS.

 

ARISS is an international educational outreach program partnering the participating space agencies, NASA, Russian Space Agency, ESA, CNES, JAXA, and CSA, with the AMSAT and IARU organizations from participating countries.

 

ARISS offers an opportunity for students to experience the excitement of Amateur Radio by talking directly with crewmembers onboard the International Space Station. Teachers, parents and communities see, first hand, how Amateur Radio and crewmembers on ISS can energize youngsters' interest in science, technology and learning.
