ARISS contact planned for school in Grand Duchy of Luxembourg

Friday April 29, 2011 at 10:12 UTC, which is 12.12 CEST, a ARISS contact is planned with Ecole Primaire de Larochette (Fiels), Larochette, Luxembourg.

The school is the only scholar establishment in Larochette (www.larochette.lu). The school is situated in the center of the village. It was built at the end of the nineteen-fifties and has been extended at the end of the nineteen-nineties. A small sports hall exists in the schoolbuilding and there is a major sports hall near the swimming pool (2km away), in the recreation area. A second building is planned by the municipality and is expected to be available in 2015.

Pupils are aged 3 to 12. Multicultural in essence, pupils and teachers speak the following languages: Luxemburgish, German, French, Portuguese, Italian and English. The school population is about 250 pupils, 30 teachers, 17 classes (kindergarten and primary school). The portuguese nationality is predominant (89%) in the multicultural population.

The radio contact will be a telebridge operated by WH6PN in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The audio of the contact will be distributed by EchoLink AMSAT (node 101 377) and JK1ZRW (node 277 208) Conference servers, as well as by IRLP Discovery Reflector 9010.

9. Mariana: How does it feel to orbit the earth with 28 000 kilometers per hour?

10. Mario: What kind of research are you doing on the ISS?

11. Charlotte: Why did you want to become an astronaut?

12. Nathan: How do astronauts wash themselves?

13. Nikita: What is the effect of weightlessness on growing plants?

14. Marc: You are orbiting earth in 90 minutes. Is there also day and night in 90 minutes?

15. Claire: How do you regulate your time feeling of day and night?Can you specify your schedule?

16. Gilles: Can you see more shooting stars from the ISS than from earth?

17. Lara: How many planets do you see from the ISS?

18. Edgar: What is the shape of the stars?

19. Tania: Do you believe in extraterrestrial life?

20. Fiore: Why does the ISS stay in orbit?

ARISS is an international educational outreach program partnering the participating space agencies, NASA, Russian Space Agency, ESA, CNES, JAXA, and CSA, with the AMSAT and IARU organizations from participating countries.

ARISS offers an opportunity for students to experience the excitement of Amateur Radio by talking directly with crewmembers onboard the International Space Station. Teachers, parents and communities see, first hand, how Amateur Radio and crewmembers on ISS can energize youngsters' interest in science, technology and learning.
